Free to Run

For those of you who have been around Aminus3 a while
you have no doubt seen this handsome fella from time to time.

We adopted him from the shelter at an indeterminable young age.
He was a street dog, living on scraps.
Liked to fight, bite, and was full of energy.

He was as unpredictable as a twister in a trailer park.

We did our best to "train" him, though he seemed to train us a lot better.
Early on, a brush with the tire of a car and we thought we had lost him.

He couldn't walk for weeks.
Then got his gait back, with an old pirate's swagger, he went on to live 11 more years.

He was loyal. We were his pack and he would do whatever he could to keep us safe.

Like a cat, he burned through at least 5 lives, maybe more.

Along with getting hit by a car, multiple falls from high places, eating toxic mushrooms...

There was the time he swallowed a giant acorn that required surgical removal from his belly,
or being thrown around like a rag doll by a Groenendael Shepherd.

There is a beautiful freedom to finding your family after a hard start in life.
To roam freely in the forest. , to have a warm bed at night, and a tasty meal each day.

He was our steward and our teacher.

Death has finally found our sweet boy. Old age got him in the end.

Deaf and limping. Still fighting and biting,

Loving, loyal and sublime.

After nearly 15 years in this world, he is free to run and play again somewhere new, in the heavens and beyond.

We will miss you dearly.
