These days there are lots of downed trees in the forest. Climate seems to be a big part of things as there have been several very hot dry summers here in Belgium which is killing off huge mature decades old trees. Not to mention recent storms with very high winds which have uprooted many a tree as well.

On top of that, there has been an effort over the last years to cull the forest of non-native trees which has resulted in even more controlled deforestation.

It's sad to see so many old trees gone or laying on their sides, but hopefully in time it will improve the health of the forest.

In the meantime, they do make for fun obstacles to climb and jump on for some other species.
