Love in China

I just returned from two weeks in China. Thanks to all who have checked out my photos and posted comments on my blog while I was gone - I do appreciate you visiting!

I took over 2000 pictures and am knee deep sorting through them. I thought it would be appropriate to start with a photo of the people that brought us to China. Here are our friends, John and Carrie, who had a wedding reception for Carrie's family who could not make it to the US wedding in April 2007.

I'll be posting a bunch of photos from our travels on the blog over the next few weeks and I hope to get a gallery online with a broader set of images plus some journal entries that Leslie and I made while traveling.

A little background on this shot... before the party, we went to a park in Guangzhou next to the restaurant to take pictures. We had a two man video crew, a dedicated hair and make-up person for Carrie, a photographer, plus Leslie and I tagging along (and shooting photos and movies as well). Needless to say, people were staring at our odd entourage, and wondering what kind of movie we were making. Nothing like a big white guy in a traditional Chinese suit to stir interest. It was about 30C (86F) outside with near 100% humidity. You can see John was sweating quite a bit in this image.

This was also the day that my Canon 24-105mm lens decided to stop functioning properly which meant that for most of my two week travel, I had to shoot with my telephoto 70-200 lens almost exclusively. So I didn't get a lot of wide sweeping landscapes but was able to focus in on some nice details throughout the trip.
