Ouroboros Crop Circle

Posted by
Jason Kravitz (Brussels, Belgium) on 29 July 2008 in Landscape & Rural.

This photo was taken at a recent crop formation near Avebury in the UK. From above it looks like an Ouroboros (snake eating it's tail). Here is an aerial photo taken by Mike Crown.

Canon EOS 40D 1/2000 second F/8.0 ISO 250 24 mm

Wow, such mood in this, it's fabulous, the sky is parting and the grass, the way it's formed, it makes one very effective compo, bravo!

I am also captivated by the light. The colour of the crop is wonderful against the sky. Nice work Jason and lucky you seeing something like that.

would be a great photo even without the added interest of the crop circle angle.

So cool! I was too busy ogling the gorgeous light coming through the clouds to notice the crop formation until I read the description!

Even without the commentary, it's a great shot, the way the light adds drama to an otherwise mundane field of grain.

Jason, this shot is so wonderful for any number of reasons. The balance of colors, graphic elements, the mood, and the fact that my eye wants to travel where you lead. The zig-zag lines of the crops, combined with the rays of light (and the nature of the clouds) create such an energy. It's interesting to photograph Avebury without green hills and standing stones. What a powerful location, shown with a powerful image.
