Saint Patrick on the Hill of Tara

Posted by
Jason Kravitz (Brussels, Belgium) on 9 November 2006 in Lifestyle & Culture.

** description from mythicalireland.com **
The Hill or Tara, known as Temair in gaeilge, was once the ancient seat of power in Ireland. 142 kings are said to have reigned there in prehistoric and historic times. In ancient Irish religion and mythology Temair was the sacred place of dwelling for the gods, and was the entrance to the otherworld. Saint Patrick is said to have come to Tara to confront the ancient religion of the pagans at its most powerful site.

Is it HDR? Well done.

@Rodion Kovenkin: Thanks Rodion
It's not an HDR. I used two layers in PS, one is the original jpg and one much more saturated with higher contrast (processed RAW from Lightroom) and blended them using masks.

Beautiful!

Nice! I love it when the sun comes out of the clouds, it shows some really nice colors. Nice tip too for the use of layers, thanks

Outstanding! Fantastic composition, content and light. Love the dark sky and the statue straddling the two distant bushes.

The subject looks really isolated in that place. I love the colors.

Saint-Pats, priez pour nous... L'accentuation des couleurs par la saturation est un bon truc. Vraiment belle photo.

It is a magical shot.
I feel uncomfortable that the focal point is lilting a little to the left. A little rotate to the right? ... or do you think that would make St Pat look like he was teetering?

@Helen: ha thanks Helen
It is a bit off kilter - maybe it's the fairies playing with our minds (or my camera)

Nice shot, I like the look of St Patrick standing alone with a dark Irish sky in the background. Well composed.
