In honor of silly Tuesday - what weighs 35lbs, costs $25,999 and looks like it could take down a helicopter? Why its the Sigma 200-500/2.8 lens.

This demo model for the Focus on Imaging show was pointed at some text at the top of a booth - not a very exciting subject - would be nice to get this out near some birds or other suitable subject and see it in action. Just need to hire a dedicated porter or donkey to lug it around.

It is an interesting price point, psychologically - is seeing $25,999 make the average consumer think that is bargain vs. $26,000?

That's quite a big lens. Not sure my PET bottle camera stand would be able to support it.

Take down a helicopter? I think it is the helicopter...look what it is standing on?! LOL. This lens almost has a telescope feel to it, maybe Gary Hart would love it for his night-time shots in Yosemite!!!

@janina: I was afraid to move it to aim it at anything else - lest it falls on the ground and I'm putting a downpayment on a $10,000 repair :)

Seems there are some Nikkor's beyond the 'Bigma'...wonder what they would cost??? Great shot Jason, I do envy you your opportunity to be there and your shot makes me drool uncontrollably!
