Zen and the Art of Birthday's

Posted by Jason Kravitz (Brussels, Belgium) on 4 April 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture.

As another annual cycle ends (and begins) today, I thought this year, I'd like to reflect on the Buddhist concept of Mindfulness.

The concept is to be present and aware in every action. Whether brushing your teeth or celebrating something joyful, we too easily tend to focus our thoughts on anything but the present.

I find that photography is a good teacher in Mindfulness and Awareness. Through photography, we learn to see beauty in tiny details and to capture fleeting moments forever framed in an image.

It is often said that the journey is what truly matters and not the destination. Being Mindful and Aware each step of the way makes it all the more worthwhile in the end.
