Holbox Fisherman

Posted by Jason Kravitz (Brussels, Belgium) on 18 July 2005 in People & Portrait.

The firsherman on Isla Holbox don't use rods and nets. They dive into the water with a spear and catch so many fish it fills up their boat before they sail back to sell their catch at the market. We met a man who came down to the water to buy a fresh fish for lunch for his family. He paid 25 pesos (about $2) for a big one. The pelicans in the background are young ones hanging out for a free meal.
