What does DoF stand for?
Direction Of Focus
Am i on the right track?

Close - DoF is Depth of Field which is usually referred to if it is
Shallow DoF - meaning your subject is in focus but the background is blurred out. Greater DoF - not neccessarily "greater" but meaning there is a lot of DoF like a landscape shot where you can see on for miles in the distance insted of seeing a rock sharp in focus with the canyons beyond slightly blurry
Usually someone comments on the DoF because it is a conscious choice by the photographer whether they want to blur things out or leave them in focus so if it looks good for a given shot you could say "nice DoF"
